SANDDORN BALANCE

Poetry of Sublime Equilibrium - Delicate Moments of Joy.

In 1996, a truly exceptional performance emerged during rehearsals for the dance theater SANDDORN, showcasing 13 palm leaf panicles and a delicately incorporated feather. For over a decade, Mädir Eugster Rigolo exclusively showcased the act in RIGOLO Swiss Nouveau Cirque's own productions. Subsequently, it evolved into a standalone performance, captivating audiences at numerous theater festivals, stages, and arenas worldwide.

The journey includes stops at prestigious venues like the Tollwood Festival, Roncalli, Flic Flac, André Heller, and numerous other events across Europe, culminating in a performance at the prestigious Spiegelworld on Broadway in New York. Mädir Eugster Rigolo received awards for the SANDDORN-BALANCE at circus festivals in Dresden and Grenoble, as well as at the Gauklerfestival in Switzerland. His exceptional skills were acknowledged internationally when he was granted the title of KAMIWAZA (master) in Japan in 2013.

In Japan, the title "Kamiwaza" denotes a master possessing extraordinary or superhuman abilities.  The balance master meticulously crafts a mesmerizingly delicate giant mobile in slow motion, employing 13 palm leaf panicles and a feather. The audience collectively holds its breath, enchanted by the deliberate and captivating movements. A Dreamweaver pursuing transient joy - an illusion. The moment the equilibrium is discovered, the artist personally deconstructs it. Endowed with the Kamiwaza honor, the artistry of SANDDORN BALANCE has gracefully entered the realm of Zen: Concentration, mindfulness, and intentional awareness converge in a 15-minute performance, seeking to explore the depths of absolute reality.

Mädir Eugster Rigolo discovered that he could no longer single-handedly meet the demand for what was hailed as "perhaps the most beautiful act in Europe" (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). He chose to delegate his act to meticulously selected artists. They, too, captivate audiences across all continents, infusing their unique flair into the balance performance.

In 2011, "Cirque du Soleil" sought a performer for the SANDDORN-BALANCE with the proposition of a 10-year commitment. In response, Mädir made the decision to pass on the act to his eldest daughter, Lara Jacobs. Since 2012, the SANDDORN BALANCE has graced stages across Asia, America, Australia, and Europe. In the U.S. Lara earned the title of the "Balance Goddess" in the Cirque du Soleil show "Amaluna". New York theater critic Nestruck placed her Rigolo performance among the "Top 10" of 2012, and Lara has been managing her own theater in New York since 2021. The finale and highlight in the Show "Moonrise", created, and directed by Lara, is the SANDDORN BALANCE.

Lara was not destined to be Mädir's sole protegé for long. The demand for the act continued to rise steadily. Marula Eugster Rigolo, Master Mädir’s youngest daughter, assumed the lead role in the iconic production WINGS BY RIGOLO featuring SANDDORN BALANCE in 2014. In 2020, she made her debut with her own dance theater piece, SOSPIRI.

Miyoko Shida Rigolo, who collaborated with Rigolo as a choreographer, infuses her SANDDORN BALANCE with a mesmerizing Far Eastern ambiance. Melodia Rigolo exudes Spanish temperament, while Li Li Rigolo embodies graceful Taiwanese elegance. Peruvian artist Samantha Diaz seamlessly integrates a dynamic blend of global dance styles into her balance performance. Andreis Jacobs Rigolo presented his interpretation of the SANDDORN-BALANCE in André Heller's "Africa Africa" and with Circus Roncalli. Presently, he enchants audiences on the stage of the Grand Show "Falling in Love" at the Friedrichstadt Palast in Berlin.

The SANDDORN BALANCE has attained worldwide acclaim and is now showcased across the globe, gracing rings and stages, adorning museums, and exhibitions, participating in festivals and theaters, and making appearances at corporate events.

In 2023, Mädir Eugster departed, leaving a lasting legacy carried on by his beloved daughters Lara, Nuria, and Marula.
